Basic Concept

MESSAGE

Chuo Kasei conducts its business activities from the standpoint of SDGs management.

As a specialty chemical trading company, Chuo Kasei operates its businesses and services from the standpoint of SDGsmanagement, which it also prioritizes in dealing with society, the environment, and governance that constitute the foundation of those businesses and services.
As a first step, we have set up organizations and a system to deal with the SDGs, and with the cooperation of our stakeholders, we have identified the following six materialities (important issues) and have begun to address them.

SDGs management promotion system

The SDGs Management Promotion Committee is an organization under the direct control of the president whose members are selected from each business division. Its tasks include in-house diffusion of the SDGs, collaboration with business divisions, and progress monitoring of important issues, and in cooperation with business divisions and the Compliance Committee, it continuously develop SDGs management initiatives.

STEP1

Selection of materialities

In line with our management philosophy, we asked our employees to complete a questionnaire to identify the issues that need to be addressed based on our Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) policy.
Based on the results of the questionnaire, we divided major corporate management issues into categories (main business/services, environment, and society/governance) and conducted another questionnaire to evaluate the importance of each item to our company.

Stakeholders’ importance evaluation

Selected issues were evaluated in terms of importance in light of the recommendations submitted by shareholders and employees.

Identification of materialities

Based on the results of the importance evaluation, we created a materiality map by selecting issues that needed to be addressed, and after a series of discussion with the top management, we identified the following materialities:

We are committed to handling products made with due consideration to the sustainable use of natural resources and to expanding sales of RSPO-certified products.

We have established a system and mechanisms for ensuring compliance with laws and regulations as well as rules and a help desk for preventing all forms of harassment.
